While photographing a few of the heavily industrialized areas of Northern Indiana in 2008, I was also drawn to the small residential areas that spotted this industrial terrain. I found the juxtaposition between the ominous, overbearing oil refineries and steel mills, and the smaller, often quaint townships to be at times contradictory, but also a strong indicator of the human spirit and urge to thrive. The final photographs were used in a book titled, IN.
